Salem Oregon Mission President Visit

R, S, T and K:
The Salem, Oregon Mission President and his amazing wife, the Samuelins, came to our ward today.  We heard about a month ago that he was coming and the minute I heard I felt like a whole plan just fell into my head.  I felt that it was really important that all the children hear from him and his dear wife.

In order to make it a memorable experience (hopefully), we gave them mini mission calls and sent them out earlier in the week to prepare the moms and children for what was going to happen.  I still feel new in this particular calling or job at church (non-paid) is really new and I love the children so much.   The missions we used were New York, NY (of course); Lima Peru; Seoul Korea; and Zimbabwe Missions.  Then we let the leaders know where they needed to be to get the children situated into their missions as reverently as quickly as possible.

I gave you "Future Missionary" stickers to give to your teachers, but I think you may have forgotten.

President and Sister Samuelin were wonderful speakers.  You all, meaning all the children, raised their hands to volunteer to be missionaries.  You were pretty reverent, but mostly excited about the whole experience.

At one point I had to step out because I felt tears coming to my eyes.  It was beautiful to see you dear children volunteering to bear your testimonies as missionaries.  I realized, once again, what precious souls I have been given stewardship over.  Each of you is dearly needed and you will have great things that you will be guided to do.

Always know how dearly you are loved!

Conference and Easter

This is from Easter morning while we were listening to General Conference.  It makes us feel so grateful that we can listen to the Prophets.
There may or may not have been a lot of candy involved (as you can tell from K's face). :D

Elder Britland

Dear Kidlets:
There was an elder in our ward that came in a little after we did.  He reminds me just a tad of my little brother, Jeffrey whose motto is "Everything in awesomeness!"
This was the last Sunday he was in our ward.
We had a family photo with him.  He did the Elvis voice in our ward at Christmas time and he was in the missionary video (remember?).

Go make magic. Love you, children-o-mine!
Mom

Thank you to Elder Britland.  We appreciate you!

Zumba Activity Days

Dear Children:
Last week Activity Days was Zumba with Bethanie Gambardella.  She was wonderful!  I wanted to start dancing so much!
She had the girls pose for the beginning of the song.  All the girls, including you, S, were laughing so hard.

I am so thankful for these wonderful girls.  I love being in Primary and seeing what amazing potential each child has.  I love Fast Sundays, the first Sunday of each month when anyone in the ward is  invited to come to the front to bear their testimony or tell of their understanding of the Gospel.  It makes me soooo happy when the primary children come and bear their testimonies.  Each month the majority of the time is taken up with the children and I feel so blessed to be their leader!

Happy Anniversary, W!

This is the best gift I've ever received/given.  It is our anniversary this weekend and I commissioned a girl that was a missionary in our ward in Brooklyn.  I love her art when she posts it on Facebook and Instagram and I am so excited to print this off and put it in our front room.

I feel like it captures how thankful and pleased we are to be together!  It is in front of our house, too!

A.C. Gilbert House

Kidlet-os,
You were a little skeptical when we came to the A.C. Gilbert Discovery Village.  You have memories of our trips to Manhattan from Brooklyn and honestly you loved all those visits, but for some reason you didn't really want to go here--until you found out you would be meeting A and B there with Erika!
But when we got there you dashed around playing with all the toys and making it fun.  I am so glad that you are good friends with each other.  In the photo above S had hidden an egg (which you cannot really see at R's feet).  S, you kept trying to hide it.
Now we have a membership to this museum which includes four others in the area (yes!).  We are going to do a lot more museum adventures.  I love it when you have days off school so we can do fun things together. Summertime is going to be wonderful! I can hardly wait!

Love, Mom

Snuggle-ugms

Dear K: I cannot believe how fast you are growing. I was looking that video of S's from yesterday and it surprised me how much you and your siblings have changed in that short time.

You have such a personality. You love to see people laugh and sometimes when we are all in the car laughing at something you burst out laughing which makes the rest of us laugh too.  You insist that markers are for writing on your arms, clothes and walls (that comes to a quick stop).

You have Daddy wrapped around your little finger.  The moment he leaves the room you do a short "Ahh" and Daddy will stop and come back and swoop you into his arms.  He is your favorite during the day and I am still your favorite during the night although I stopped nursing you months ago.

You love to pet our bunny and to open her cage so she can jump out. You love to have R take you to exciting destinations--like the backyard.  You think T is a regular comedian and S gives you the best snacks which are usually sweet.

Last week you were teething or something and wouldn't sleep through the night. One night Daddy told me that I should sleep and he would take you for the night.  He lasted five minutes. Haha.  He loves you so much!

You think it is great to go and find Daddy's phone that he keeps by the bed and his glasses.  If he falls asleep before you, which let's be honest is about every night, you climb out of bed and put the glasses on his sleeping face and his phone in hand so he has it if it suddenly rings. You are so helpful.

You are learning so many sounds. I would say words, but they are mostly noises you are interested in. You can imitate a train, plane, cow, cat, a honking horn almost on demand.  You know all our names, but you prefer to say "Da" for Dad, "AwWa" for S, but to my knowledge you don't have words you use for R or T.

You are adored! We love you!

Love,
Mom

Camping and Friends

Daddy works so hard that when there was an opportunity to go camping with the scouts to a member of the scout troop's house, Daddy decided all the children (except you, K) should go.  You went with Daddy after his work. You got there about 9 p.m.  Enough time to get some delicious s'mores and to get the tent put up. It was raining and there were no lights.  Daddy still got the tent up.  By the morning, however, I think you were all slightly soaked and cold but absolutely delighted.

Now I have a list of things I need to do next time we go camping to prepare you better.  S, you got marshmallow in your hair and you all proclaimed that you had never been camping before. But, really, R and S, you have.  When R was 2 and S was a few months old we went camping with the Ortons.

Then after you got home we rushed up to Tigard for Emma's birthday party. We got there a little late because of a wreck that would have been exactly where we would have been if we'd have left a little earlier. So, in other words, I think we missed a wreck leaving when we did even though we had to go through a lot of traffic to get to the party place.

Then I got to go to a baby shower of one of our friends there too and see so many women that have left an impact in my life.  I got to see three of my dearest friends in Tigard that day too. I loved it!

Carousel Museum: Albany, Oregon

Kidlets:
A couple of weeks ago during spring break, we went to the Carousel Museum with our friends.  You had a great time.
This museum is going to be turned into a carousel and carousel house, but for now, it is the studio/museum where they are working tirelessly to get the animals done.  Each animal had a unique story--like the frog above. It is dedicated to a wonderful woman that passed away recently, by her twelve children (you can see on the apron twelve little tadpoles). Her favorite animal was frogs, color purple and her favorite flowers were yellow roses.  What a dear way to remember your mother, right?!

They were so happy to tell us all about the projects.  There were even some you could climb on and enjoy. Several of the stores in Albany house the finished animals--for donations--until the time they are ready to be put on the carousel that will be built.  Each animal takes at least two years from beginning to end.

S's First Uploaded Video

S, you posted your first video on youtube.  You are so proud. It is of all the kidlets and me making our favorite chicken tortilla soup.  It was so good!

Hear how fun we are?!  I cannot believe how much you have grown since we filmed this.  It is in our old place.

CAN-DO Protection from Pornography: Guest Post from Grammers VDG

Dear Family,

I have had quite a few of you ask me  the reference for the "CANDO" list that I used some time ago in FHE about combating pornography.  I finally found the reference online: Deseret News, "10 Ways to Immunize Kids Against Pornography"

In presenting this, we changed the "D" part of CANDO from "distract myself" to "Don't stay, walk away". Research has shown that any time we use our bodies physically (walk away, do push ups, jumping jacks, etc) it is easier to shun inappropriate material with physical movement.

I hope this information blesses you and your kiddos.  I use the "CANDO" list myself, it is simple and empowering.  Dad and I were walking past Victoria's Secret at Station Park and dad labeled the mostly naked women in the display windows by saying, "that's pornography". We were both disgusted and saddened by their misuse of the beautiful feminine body as objects of advertisement and enticement.  Don't get me wrong about beautiful lingerie and its appropriateness within the bonds of marriage - there is a time and a place for such things and can be special for a married couple.  However, when women's bodies are used as objects of lust and for monetary greed, it is pornography.

Be strong.  Take a stand for what is right. We are in a battle for that which is good and wholesome and builds strong families. We love you and want you to know that we are so proud of each of  you, and we feel so blessed with the pure and sweet and innocent grandchildren that are in each family.  Protect your own hearts and those of your children, like a "mother lioness" at the gate. (ref: Julie Becks talk- I'm sure she would call on Daddy to be the ferocious lion who protects his cubs). And remember, there is ALWAYS hope and help available for each of us through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and his love for each of us. For this I am so grateful.

Love you all forever,
Love, mommers

p.s. feedback on this would be helpful....how do you feel about this? If you have any questions, please feel free to talk to me. I would love to talk to any of you and share what I have learned.

Here is the link to the book that the ideas came from:  Good Pictures Bad Pictures

Thanks, Grammers!  I appreciate what you do and for the post!
